| I saw the movie for the first time last night and am wondering what people think about a Greek theme. I apologize if this has been discussed and discounted previously. First, Mulholland = Valhalla. The Gods are on the top of the hill and the happenings of mortals (and the Gods interactions with them) go on below. I dont know my Greek mythology well enough to put together an entirely cogent arguement, but there are a few clues here. Second, we have the Cassandra character who fortells bad things when she sees that there is a second woman in the apartment. She is taken away by Coco (Hera?). The Cowboy - whose presence is minimal but whose influence is huge - could represent Zeus (if you do good you will see me once more - i.e. when you are dead; if you do bad you will see me twice - i.e. when I kill you and when you are dead). The director would presumably represent a lesser God and Rita is a fallen God. The world (L.A.) is idyllic for Diane (Pandora?) save the meddling of the Gods and their mignions until the box is opened when all hell breaks loose. The homeless guy (burn victim) is Hades. His presence at the time of the hiring of the hitman (controlling it according to the mortal at the coffee shop) is the presence of an evil God. The hit man is the (bumbling) Titan (name?) who stole fire from the sun for mankind and gave it to Diane (Pandora) for what turned out to be a huge price. The accident really did happen and it represents Dianes death after which she is taken to Valhalla and sees the Gods to whom nothing of what happens below, despite their meddling, matters much.
Like I said, I dont know mythology well enough to detail the intertwining stories, but I feel like there could be a backstory that the viewer should already know (i.e. - greek mythology).
Interested to hear thoughts. |

I donīt know if MD is has a mythological background, but Valhala is where nordic warriors go after dying, i donīt think that they would let enter a greek man there |
