Response to cinematic tradition

The brilliance of the stories that you mentioned was the fact that the viewer was given a chance tie up all loose ends and circular subplots. All characters have a purpose for being. Where Drive falls short is that many of the characters and subplots were never explained, and we were never given a fair chance to close them out ourselves.
