I recently upgrades from the 150 to the Zenith 520.
It was a good move!! Highly recommended:
My setup:
I'm using a Radio Shack VU-190xr all band which has a rather meager, whimpy UHF Yagi on it. With an RS preamp, and 50 ft tower and roter, I pull in very nicely CBS,ABC,NBC,Fox,WB,UPN, and NJR -- all Philly from 60 miles away.
Yes, I'm using the Zenith 520. The 520 has improved the reliability of reception, and made it possible to get WB, UPN, and NJN which I could not receive with my previous STB a Samsung 150.
NBC and WB still ocassionally pixelate in bad weather perhaps 10-20 times/hr.
With DTV, you either have an excellent picture or virtually no picture.
I'm upgrading to a Channel Master UHF Yagi #4248 and CM 7775 preamp which has 2-3 times the gain of the RS VU-190xr in the UHF band. With this setup I'm hoping to increase my range to 115 miles -- maybe NY <g>!!

My understanding is the 150 is just as good as the 151 provided you have the most current software. I was unable to find any documentation from Samsung on this so I returned the 150 and bought the 151. The reception did not appear to be any better but it was definitely debugged!

Richard,
I looked on the samsung site and couldn't find any info. I also checked out Zenith's site to see if their units can be flashed. Do you have any specifics?
Thanks

When the info was there all it posted was the connection kit. You will have call Samsung either way to get the full details. May have to send it to them for the upgrade. In the AVS Forum there are discussions about doing this yourself but I could never get this clearly defined.
Good Luck,
Richard

Here is the direct link to the Samsung SIR-T150 firmware upgrade info:
http://www.samsungusa.com/images/dced_upgrade/bulletin/sirt150_upgrade/sirt150_upgrade.html
You can download firmware v1.8 from there. Check the firmware version on your unit first, newer units have v1.8 or v2.0 already. If you buy the required serial cable to your PC for firmware download it costs around $30.

That was good - how did you find that? I looked all over their website for that one.
Is the serial cable just a standard null modem or straight cable or is it a custome cable?
Thanks
