Does anyone know if watching non-HD channels in HD mode, i.e., through the HD component cables, rather than through the standard coax cable, would damage my TV?
I was told that non-HD channels should only be watched through the coax connection, and HD channels should be watched using the HD input.

Hi,
Bobby I don't think that's what Matt quite meant.
Whenever available I watch non HD programs on my HD channels through the component output/input cable box to tv.
I think that these channels constantly broadcast,(when not showing a HD broadcast in a 480p rez at a 4/3 aspect ratio, which will give you black bars on the sides of your picture. IMHO this picture is head and shoulders above their analog couterarts which you tv will probably allow you to stretch and PQ varies depending on network and signal strength. (In short it's all over the map)
I feel that I have addressd the possible burnin question by having my HD Ready set ISF calibrted to the proper temperature which is around 6500k and brought the brightness and contrast down to the 50% area which should lengthen the life of my guns significantly and preclude possible damage when watching programs, (both film and NTSC) that have black bars on either the top and bottom (which you will see on some dvd's (normal) or on the sides when watching a telivision program which is either not being broadcast in 16/9.
The FOX network, broadcasts several shows in 16/9 but not in true HD. I think they either uprez or dnrez to 480p and I detest them for it.
Anyway, you now have 2 responses to your query both of which I think are correct and should cover all bases.

Do NOT use the coax connection for anything in which the TV is not directly tuning the channel that means cable and satellite STB's plus HiFi VCR's. ALWAYS use your A/V inputs for these products for the best sound and picture.
