Equipment

Sony KV40XBR800 (TV and stand for $2,200)
Sony HD 200 Tuner (picked up as open box for $350 at CC)

I have read over this forum many times. The advice offered is excellent. I am in search of some help in optimizing my DirecTV standard picture.

HD over DirecTV looks great. HD over the air is AMAZING! (Silver Sensor antenna.) I love MNF and Leno!

Standard broadcast quality over DirecTV is pretty poor. It’s very fuzzy. The football games look all washed out on the NFL ticket. Games on HD channels (70s) look much better, but not as good as Sunday night or Monday night games. I’ve compared my analog cable signal to DirecTV and the analog cable is better and it has already been split many times.

What can I do to improve my standard signal resolution? Do I have some “settings” wrong either on the TV or the receiver? I am a novice to TV settings, but I do hold an engineering degree and follow instructions very well.

Thanks in advance,

Howard

DirecTV uses compression which gives you data loss and subsequently a worse picture. Not much you can do for that...

I read somewhere that hooking up thru the S-Video connection helps Standard Definition look better on HDTV sets..Does anyone else find this to be true?
