Splitting Satellite Signal

I am trying to split my satellite signal so I can hook a second TV up next to my big screen and have 2 separate satellite tuners pulling in multiple NFL ticket games.

I bought a digital signal splitter that says it is for mini dish. It didn’t work. No signal was passed through it. It worked with my analog cable, but not with my satellite.

Can any help or tell me how to accomplish splitting a satellite signal?

Howard,

You’ve got to keep in mind that the satellite coax cable is a two way street. For DirecTV, the Sat receivers select polarization with a 13 / 18V signal and select satellites with a 22KHz tone. Echostar uses different methods, but in both systems, it’s a DC signal “up” the coax. A simple splitter just won’t cut it for two receivers.

The device you need is a multiswitch and there are plenty of them out there. Although you haven’t stated it here, information from another post indicates that you have a Sony DirecTV receiver. Try Google search for “DirectTV multiswitch” and you’ll get plenty of examples and vendors.

Will this work? It seems to be pretty popular.

I have the tri-LNB dish and one of the split signals is going to an HD receiver.

Howard,

If it's a newer triple LNB, you will find it has a multiswitch already inside. You run a new coax directly from the LNB to the second receiver.

See page 9 of the manual at:

What does your manual say?

I'n trying to do this without running any more cables. I was just hoping to split the signal at the TV and bring a receiver temporarily from another room in the house so I can watch multiple football games in my family room on Sundays. Will the multi-switch mentioned above do the trick?

Not if you've only got one down cable.
