Hello all,

I currently have a 32" Phillps (regular ole TV) with a "basic" Panasonic DVD,Sony VHS, and a three year old Dish Network reciever. I've been keeping a lazy eye on Wide Screens and still am rather fuzzy with all the jargon, etc..

BestBuy is offering a Mitsubishi WS-48313 and WS-65313 with 24month pay off options (rather attractive).

My questions are:

1.) Are these recommended TVs?
2.) Is it necessary to have a Progressive Scan DVD
3.) I see "HD" channels in the 8000 range, will I need a new reciever?

Thanks a bunch!

1) Best Buy's Mits series are made especially for Best Buy. You can buy the Mits Gold Series at other establishments for the same money and they will be better TVs.

2) Not necessary, but the progressive scans will give you a better picture than the Mits is capable of providing in interlaced 960 mode.

3)You will need a Dishnet HD receiver (6000, soon to be released 811) to receive HD feeds. There are no HD feeds in the 8000 channels. The HD feeds are in the 9400s. You will not be able to see HD feeds without an HD receiver.

I am a Mitsubishi 65908 (Diamond) owner with a Model 6000 receiver.

I do not believe the models numbers listed above are Best Buy exclusives. A55,B55,A65 and B65 were the Best Buy exclusive numbers. The model numbers he has listed are Mits Silver series (upgradeable NOT integrated).

You should be VERY careful about Mits model numbers the 2002-2003 model numbers are very close to the 2003-2004 model numbers but in a different class.

For example a ws-55511 is a 2002-2003 platinum series (integrated)whereas a ws-55513 is a 2003-2004 gold series (integrated). Another thing to be careful of 2002-2003 Gold series was upgradeable but the 2003-2004 Gold seires is integrated. Confused yet? See Mitsubishi web site for description of all the numbers.

I bought a 55" Platinum series about a year and a half ago for $3100 dollars.

Look at Sammy DLP's

I recommend the Sammy 43" DLP set. It just doesn't get any better for the money. $3500.00. Mitsu's are nowhere near that good, as least until they too build sets with that Texas Instruments chip. Just an opinion. Look for yourself at CC or Sears.

have you looked at the Toshiba sets from BB??? i bought a 57" and couldn't be any more please...just a qiuck note on d* tv and big screens...the pic quality isn't that of cable on some stations...pixelation in the blacks and blues is nore noticeable than a std. set, also the edges are sometimes a little fuzzy depending in the channel.

just my .02 worth.

CRT based displays are still King if you are a videophile. Digital displays still have some things to work out...
