Has anyone tried hooking up a JVC D-VHS machine (either the HMDH3000 or HMDH4000) to a Samsung SIR-T165 STB?

I want to make sure that the STB can control the VCR before I buy one.

Thanks

Dave

I have the JVC 30k connected to my Samsung 165 and it works great. Not sure what you mean when you say "control" the JVC. I use mine to tape for timeshift purposes and it works great. Just connect the two together using firewire and you are set to go. Let me know direct if I can help you.

Of course if all you want to do is timeshift, just buy the new Zenith HDR230. It will hold 9 hours of HD material. Of course, if you want to watch D-VHS movies you will the JVC and Sam. but there are only a few movies out and I personally don't think there will be many more......it's just a stop gap while we wait for HD-DVD to come State side. If I was buying now I'd get the Zenith and not the JVC and Samsung.

Hugh,

Does the Sammy HD230 allow recording from DirecTV and OTA as well...or from a Comcast Motorola HD Cable box? The advertising is a little bit misleading.

Interested

Thanks

Jeff

Not Samsung but Zenith

It's the Zenith HDR230 and it only allows recording from OTA. There is a write up on it in the Oct. 2003 issue of SGHT. No sat. or cable recording.
