Not sure if anyone said it officially yet, but there is no firewire on the voom, DVI or component are your choices. As far as the rest of it goes; we had several problems with the signal in the store yesterday, despite the fact that there was no bad weather. We are only getting one feed in my store. It's the same thing on every stupid channel. The quality of the channel we are looking at is not great. It is hooked up on the 55" Mitsubishi Silver Series with cheap component cables for now. The Dish Network demo channel feed on the Silver Plus Series Mitsubishi is right next to it, and I think the Dish picture looks better. I don't think it is the television's either because when we had the Dish Network hooked up on both, you really couldn't tell a difference in the two. It should be setup up very similarly in other Sears stores now if you all want to check it out.

As far as interest goes, I had one customer come in to look at it so far, but the signal went out almost on command when he came in. We haven't gotten a whole lot of info from anyone at Voom. They had an installer come by and hook it up and put up signage. The installer didn't know much about it. We haven't even recieved any info on how to ring up a purchase yet either. I know that as a customer, you will pay $50 in the store, I assume for some sort of certificate that you will take and call Voom to pay the rest and activate. I have called the other Sears stores in my area and the associates there are just as in the dark as my store is. It seems to me that if Voom wants this to take off, they should give the people that are selling it a little more info. Most of the other associates at my store are completely clueless about Voom. Moviebeam, another new service that we just started carrying, sends a rep in twice a week to answer questions and check up on things; a much more effective way of doing business if you ask me. Just my $. 02

I wonder if this indicative of the kind of customer service you will receive or is it just start up problems?

I am also disappointed that it appears most equipment (my cable box has DVI)is going DVI instead of 1394 (or both). I wonder if this trend will continue or if there will be some sort of DVI to 1394 conversion hardware

1394 is not considered an output as much as a means to record.

That makes sense, I guess we just have to hope for HD STBs with HD recoding built in since it appears they will not be having 1394 ports themselves.

Dish has said (in the last Tech Chat) that the 921 will have 1394 but it will not be activated at the onset.

ARGH!!!!!!!

But then I don't care about archiving - just time shifting.
