I do not have satellite I have cable so I was unable to answer my friends question. Does Dish Net have HD receivers. I know I have read many posts talking about HD satellite but having no interest in satellite I never payed attention to which one has HD (DirecTV, DishNet or both)?

Thanks

Oh yeah, will he have to add another LNB if Dish has HD? What receiver should he get? He has Dish not DirecTV.

I found a page about the HD 6000U for Dish but it made reference to an Enhanced HD adaptor for 8pskb(?). Is the 6000u not all that is needed? Does he need this enchanced hd adaptor? It also talked about an adaptor for OTA (8vsb?)that part I understand but not the other adaptor.

Your friend may want to wait.

Your friend may want to wait just a little bit. Right now the Dish 6000 is the only HD box they have, and, yes, he would need the adaptor to receive the HD package. He would also have to have the OTA module to receive any of his local channels. And he would need a second dish pointing to the HD satellites.

I believe that either this month or next, dish will be releasing 2 new boxes which should have all the necessary adaptors built in. The 811 is suposed to be around $300-$400. The 921, which many are waiting for, will have a DVR built in. The 921 will probably be in the $1000 range. Also Dish is coming out with a new Superdish which is larger and will eliminate the need for 2 dishes. They will probably offer some type of combo package for new HD receiver and Superdish.

Or, he might be able to swing a good deal on the 6000 with the new boxes coming out. I'd suggest he call a local Dishnet dealer to see if they have any info on specials for the 6000, or upcoming deals on the new boxes and superdish.

I talked to my local dealer(he handles both dishnet and directv) He said wait two or three weeks and dish network will have free hd boxes and dish with a one year comitment to dish network HD service. Sounds to me like voom has put a lot of pressure on the other providers.
