A good friend of mine has the 57HLX and I have had plenty of chances to mess around with it. I wrote a very laymen review of the TV with my critiques on this board, should be able to find it by searching for 57hlx.

I saw an add in onecall for the 65HLX83 which looks like a great tv. The HLX has the best picture of any HDTV I have ever seen, even the Plasma and LCD models.

I am not sure what features they have added to the new models but I would bet the pic is a little improved and hopefully some better features.

This year's models of the Toshiba LCOS are on "indefinite hold." There are many threads on this over at AVS. Last year's models had some serious problems even though they have outstanding PQ. People who bought last were offered free upgrades to the new models, but they are still waiting..

Pick up a copy of this month's 'The Perfect Vision' magazine (or download it from their website ( http://www.theperfectvision.com ). There's an extensive article comparing 6 TV's both straight-out-of-the-box and calibrated. Thumbs down:

"Poor absolute black level that was not as good as what the Optoma achieves with DLP technology"

"Poor contrast ratio with any material that isn't bright. Even medium-bright movie scenes tend to be washed out. This set is better suited to TV watchers than movie lovers"

Then again, it has "super-cool styling"...

Jay,

I would be VERY interested in hearing more about this FREE UPGRADE. If you can, please pass on more information on how to contact Toshiba or what needs to happen.

The TV is awesome, put a free upgrade cant be beat.

stephen,
Do you own the 57hlx82? I think the upgrade is only for people who bought it and had problems.

I don't know the exact deails (I own a Sammy DLP myself). Alot of people had geometery problems which can't be fixed. People who complained to get it fixed under their warranty, said Toshiba offered a refund or an upgrade.

If you're more interested, you should go over to the AVS forum and check out the RPTV section and search for LCOS threads.
