WASHINGTON, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Local U.S. telephone carrier Verizon Communications (VZ.N: Quote, Profile, Research) plans to unveil as early as Thursday a marketing pact to offer DirecTV satellite service, a source familiar with the situation said on Wednesday.
Verizon, the No. 1 U.S. local telephone carrier that serves much of the U.S. East Coast, starting next year will bundle the satellite television service with its wireless, Internet and telephone services, the source said, declining further identification.
Other local telephone carriers like BellSouth Corp. (BLS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) have already forged such pacts with satellite services. DirecTV is the No. 1 U.S. satellite television service and a unit of Hughes Electronics. (GMH.N: Quote, Profile, Research)
