This evening I watched "NATURE: Kalahari: The Flooded Desert".

I watched the complete program via Bell ExpressVu, then later the first half on Star Choice.

The HDTV PQ was outstanding, as was the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound - it was like being there.

However, there were some very serious problems with the picture at times - during any complex, rapid movements (mainly the bird sequences) there was horrible pixelation.

Was this pixelation due to -
1. the 1080i format and/or
2. compression by the satellite providers.

I would be very interested in hearing from any viewers who watched this program OTA. Did you get the same pixelation?

Pixellation

I watched the show OTA from San Francisco and saw the same pixellation during "busy" scenes. I've never seen a flock of birds taking off on HDTV without the same effect. I think it's just what happens with 1080i when the data rate exceeds the bandwidth.
