does anyone have a tuner with QAM capabilities that is able to display HD without the use of the comcast box. I currently have comcast internet with analog cable and I wasn't sure if I added the tuner (I'm looking into the LG2400 OTA & QAM tuner)if I would be able to pick up the digital stations.

Depends on the system. You just have to try it. Please let us know what happened.

But before I went out and bought a new receiver, I would take one of my neighbors comcast boxes and hook it up in my house to see if it works. Comcast keeps track of the cable boxes here and they blast down to load the boxes for the correct conversion. In my house I have a Comcast HDTV receiver, a Digital Receiver and they have been know to reset them each at seperate times. Hooking up a neighbors box might not tell you much, but it might also tell you if Comcast knows what and where their boxes are and what stations they are sending you.

All that being said, I would certainly like to know your findings also.

I have analog cable. I also have comcast internet service. I wanted to know ( because it is passing a digital signal for my cable modem)if I were to hook up a receiver (just OTA and QAM) if it would pick up the unscrambled hdtv stations(ABC, NBC, PBS, Fox, and (with hope) ESPN HD and INHD 1 & 2 and comcast sportsnet) I just wanted to know if anyone else has tried this in the philly area. I know they have to "ping" the moto box to turn it on but is it also necessary for a QAM tuner?

I have a Mits HD with a built in QAM tuner in addition to the integrated HD tuner.

I hooked my Comcast analog cable to the DTV cable input to see what benefits the QAM decoder provided, to put it simply, VERY little benefit. I did an auto search of channels on the cable and was able to tune in only about three of the digital cable channels (none of which were of the HD variety). I have been using an OTA antenna for about a year and a half for HD locals and just recently got the Comcast HD digital cable box (Motorola DCT5100). The Comcast HD digital cable box works great and I love the two INHD channels.

So basically the integrated QAM decoder has no value.
