From Jersey City you should be able to get
cbs abc fox(carries UPN as well) and WB with almost any antenna. Of course FOX/UPN are not currently broadcasting any HD in NY. Its hoped that NBC will be back on in December.

Several others should be reachable, particularly if you have an antenna rotator. This includes several NJ based PBS stations and several spanish stations. I have not so far seen WNET, although it is suppose to be broadcast again in digital.

I am 35 miles out on LI and can get these as well as a couple LI and Connecticut stations.

If you are getting solid signals on the channels you mentioned, you shouldn't need to upgrade your antenna. If you need an upgrade I suggest a good Channel Master or Wineguard antenna. You may be able to use a UHF only antenna which would be smaller than a VHF/UHF antenna. Currenly only WPIX is using a VHF digital signal (ch 12) but most UHF antenna's can pick that up pretty well.
