CBS Detroit - Sloppy HDTV Switching

I get my HDTV from Star Choice & Bell ExpressVu. Star Choice gets its eastern HDTV from the Detroit stations and Bell ExpressVu gets its eastern HDTV signals from the Boston stations.

Lately, I have found that CBS Detroit has become very sloppy in their switching between HDTV and SDTV. On 3 or 4 occasions in the last couple of weeks the technician at that station has failed to switch back to HDTV after a commercial break. Usually the lapse has been notice in 1 or 2 minutes, but last night the program continued in SDTV right to the end (following the end of a commercial break at 34 minutes past the hour).

On each occasion I switched to the Boston feed where the signal continued in HDTV. I have never seen an instance where the tech at CBS Boston has had this lapse.

What's going on at CBS Detroit? Does no one care?

Sloppy HDTV Switching

In all the CBS shows I have watched from the Detroit CBS owned station, I haven't noticed any delayed switching. I will keep an eye on things. In the past I have e-mailed the local NBC outlet for such infractions. They responded that they are concerned and have told the Techs to be more diligent. If I notice it happening with CBS I will also let them know.
Bob; I was at a live concert last night by John McDermott - It was great!

Right now, 8:00-9:00 PM EST Nov 16, WWJ (CBS Detroit) is broadcasting "Cold Case" in SD on their HD channel. I can see the same program from WTOL (CBD Toledo) in HD.

I have seen the problem of material not switching after commercials also.

It is frustrating!

NBC Seattle - No HDTV!

This evening "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" is being broadcast on NBC - KING-TV Seattle. It should be ... and usually is in HDTV. At the beginning of the program there was a graphic stating that it was in HDTV where available. But guess what, someone at KING-TV forgot to "flip the switch". The program is being shown in 4:3 SDTV!

How are we going to win over the unconverted to HDTV with this continuing incompetence at the affiliates? I am really getting ticked off!

Happens once in awhile in the Wash, DC market also...all three network affiliates. It's been better the past couple of weeks, though.

After tuning in late on NCIS last night I noticed it was in SD. About 20 minutes later it suddenly went to HDTV. I e-mailed the station this am mentioning NCIS and additionally concerns from others on the Forum. I got back the following reply. Evidently they do care!

"We appreciate your feedback regarding our HDTV service.

The issue you mentioned is being investigated, and if a problem is discovered, it will be corrected immediately.

Thanks for watching!"
