Voom footprint

I haven't heard much about Voom lately. As a member of the press I have emailed them twice, and have never received an answer. I write Tech Articles for a Latin American newspaper and would have thought they would have wanted to respond.

Maybe you guys can help me. The published footprint for Rainbow 1 at 61.5 W is that of 22 spot beams. Yet the satellite specifications speak about a Conus Beam as well.

We can usually get the conus beams (US DirecTV, Dish, & Star Choice) with a 3 to 5 foot dish here in Central Mexico. The spot beams are out of the question.

If VOOM is also transmitting on the Conus footprint, I should be able to get the signal if I attach the VOOM LMBF to a large Ku dish. My biggest is 15 foot in diameter (actually C/Ku horizon to horizon).

I'm located just south of Guadalajara, Mex.

Several of my friends have picked up 42 inch plasma HDTV units here in Central Mexico(the best prices seem to be at Costco and Sams) and then hook them up and play DVDs thereon. In fact the input for the displays I saw in Costco were from DVDs only. Oh well a store manager said that Sony reps would be at the stores later who could better answer more technical questions. Just maybe they will hook up true HDTV.

At first blush I am thinking of a Sony KF 50xbr800 LCoS.

For a tuner, I'm contemplated the Canadian Star Choice HD 200 I think that's what it's called. It's really a Motorola, probably made in Mexico.

For HDTV programming, if I can't get Voom, I will use C band (both analog and digital) and once star choice replaces their weaker satellite, (this spring?) star choice's feeds as well
