I purchased a Promise Module for my Mitsubishi WS 73903 HDTV. I am not able to get my JVC HM-DH30000U HDTV VCR to work with the Promise Module via IEEE1394. Intially, the icon for the vcr showed up in the "device" menu, but when I clicked on the "play" icon, I got a message, that the Mits could not operate the VCR because of an "unknown problem". Upon attaching the vcr to a different IEEE1394 port, the icon disappeared and has never reappeared. When I attempted to play a DTheater HDTV tape of Ice Age, I got a message that the tape was copy protected...which it is...but it's supposed to play from the JVC unit via IEEE1394. I got sound but no picture.
Mitsubishi Operational Assistance says the JVC unit is incompatible with the Mits TV because JVC does not use HAVI. Is this true? If true, how does one know what IEEE1394 devices will work with what? Cable companies are introducing HD PVRs with IEEE. How does one know if they will work with a MITS TV?

I suggest you take this to the AVS forum. Many are having success and this is the first I have heard of this. We just had a thread about a week ago from a guy succesfully using a JVC with a Mits.
Good luck and let us know what happened.

www.avsforum.com gets you to the home page. AVS stands for Audio Video Science. You'll want to register, but that is a snap.
Offhand I would say the problem is in your Promise Module. What level of JVC support did you talk to? I'm not really impressed with their first line. HAVI has nothing to do with your problem and there are lots of Mits users including quite a few with the PM that are using the JVC deck just fine.
Go explore the Forum, but I would contact Mitsubishi and see if they have any idea.

You have a different model Mits than I do and there may be a difference in the Promise Module, but you should be able to make a connection and at least watch tapes even if you have to control the JVC thru its own remote.
Have you tried looking at the JVC I-Link connections listed on the vcr? Of course you would have to access these from a ntsc hookup or at least something other than the firewire. See if the JVC knows about any I-Link connections.
You might also want to try to play the tapes using the componenet output rather than the firewire just to see if you can do it.

That will work, no sweat. You still can't record until the 1394 starts working though. There may have been a change in the Mits software. Tell Mits that there are plenty of others using the JVC with their stuff.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like you got on the ASV Forum and got some advice on things to try.
If you have done these and are still having problems I agree with Richard. Call Mits and INSIST on speaking to someone who is an expert on the PM. You might have to suggest that they send someone to check out the PM. You paid big bucks for the tv and the PM so you deserve to have better service.
I just don't see how it can work for so many people, but not for you.
