I'm buying my niece a TV with an S-Video connection for an improved Gamecube picture. I noticed a 20" Advent for $160 that includes component video inputs that you would find on a high def model(green-blue-red). Could this connection be any better than an S-Video connection considering that the TV isn't high def? I realize that the component inputs are only compatible with a DVD player so this isn't about the Gamecube. Here's the link:

Not familiar with this model, but yes component inputs are better than s-video.

This unit may only be able to do 480i, but still an improvement. If it does 480P even better.

Jaybee, I'm using the Gamecube with only rca video and the quality is still very good. I suspect that the s-video will be outstanding but the component connection may not be much better in this case, unless the TV does 480p, some Gamecube games can do 480p. Whatever way you go, I just want to suggest getting a TV with a flat-screen. It's worth the extra money

Component is better due to higher bandwidth. It is also the native format. S-video is one level of degradation and composite is yet another.

I have my gamecube hooked up via component video cables and yes it does look better than s-video. You'll have to special order the component cables from www.nintendo.com though as no store seems to carry it. Games where a lot of bright colors are used (mario kart double dash, etc) really look good.

Thanks for the input guys, but I missed your responses and the rush of the holiday season had me going with a 20" Panosonic for $149.99. It doesn't have component connections, sporting an S-Video connection in the back, with AV inputs in the front. She had an ancient 27" Magnovox with no AV or SVideo connections so she's thrilled at the increased clarity of her Gamecube picture, not to mention the TV picture itself.
