While visiting my Sears Super Store in PA I asked how many Voom subscriptions their store had sold. Too my amazement the response was "not one!" He went on to say that no one is going to spend that kind of money when both D* and DISH have twice the service and price packages with little down, and more to see.

Can't tell if Jeff is another Voom basher, or just criticizing Sears. I have to agree that Sears is doing a lousy job of selling and promoting Voom. They can't get the system to work in their stores, and if they have it working at all, just a single or maybe 2 channels. Salesmen know absolutely nothing about the service so are of no help to prospective buyers. I have been installed and running since mid November, and had to educate the Sears salesman about the service at my local Sears store. In my opinion, the D's would not now be coming up with the CBS feed or anything else additional if not for Voom. They are starting to feel the pressure. At last count, Voom has 27 HD channels up and running compared to 7 or 8 at best at the D's. Price is also a factor in my own decision to go with Voom. Got tired of paying $50 plus per month for only 4 HD channels. When I was contemplating changing over to Voom, I called DTV to ask what they were going to do to remain competetive. Their answer was "nothing". So my decision to change was immediate. Have been pretty much satisfied with Voom save for a few minor glitches that will be taken care of in time. Had to expect some problems on a new start-up like this, but hey, the service is free for me til the end of Fabruary.

I spoke with the VP of Voom a few weeks ago, and he made mention that Sears will no longer be carrying the service and they will go after the more knowledgeable salespeople at specialty shops. Everyone knows you can't count on Sears!!!!!! So we'll see. They will be OK as long as they get some smart people behind it, who know how to install it, and actually know some stuff about it. Give it 6 months.

So your point is how the Sear's salesman is so smart and on the ball about all the pizza dishes and some of the videophiles here are not up to speed? Do you work at BestBuy or CircuitCity?

While at Sears in Orange COunty California.... I asked the sales guy if the footprint would reach Newport Beach, CA??? He didn't know what a satellite footprint was.... I told him if he could gaurantee I could get all those channels... and at the price advertised... I was very interested..
... He called someone... THen Came back and told me
that He would get right back to me on both questions..
I eventually gave him my phone number.... and am still waiting!!!!

Probably best to call Voom direct at 1-800-getvoom. I know that their satellite is the easternmost U.S. satellite and is very low in the arc. May be a problem getting the signal out in California. Heard somewhere along the line that they will be putting up or using another satellite sometime in the future nearer the center of the arc, which would footprint out west nicely.
