DirecTV Answer-Make Sense?

Folks,

I just finished a phone conversation with DirecTV asking questions about the latest press release of them offering CBS and FOX HD (FOX Widescreen) to their lineup. The news can be found on DirecTV's website.

For starters, I have a waiver for CBS through NY and CA because my state does not have locals on DTV yet and I'm in an area with poor reception...very mountainous. Also, my local stations do not broadcast in HD as of yet. The employee at DirecTV told me they do not have a date as to WHEN DirecTV will offer CBS in HD. Again, I have CBS through NY and CA (channels 380 and 381). According to this employee, I do not have to do anything else to receive the HD feed. He told me that it will be on the SAME channel as my CBS feeds now. Anything broadcast in HD (CSI, Everybody Loves Raymond, SuperBowl, etc.) will be on my channel 380.

Does this sound correct? I would think they would have to offer this on a separate channel just as HBO or ESPN does. Maybe I don't understand, but how can I receive the HD feeds through the same channel?

Just my opinion, but I think you're being misinformed. All my DirectTV HD channels are grouped together from channel 73 (ESPN HD) to 88 (HDO HD). Some other channels would be spot add ons, like the NFL Season Ticket High Def game(CBS) or NFL Season Ticket High Resolution game (Fox). The High Def Game of the Week (taped, not live) on the NFL Channel (#212)would be televised on their regular channel 212 and on the high def feed of 70 something.

They can place a HD feed on any channel. HBO has channel 88 and 509. Why...not sure? That's just bandwidth that could be used for something else. Anyway, they COULD put CBS-HD on 380. I'm just curious if that makes sense since 380 is already occupied by the NON HD CBS out of NY.

But yes, you are correct. I'm sure I'm being mislead. I just don't want to miss out on seeing the SB in HD.

I know they could put an HD feed on any channel, but it appears they[DirectTV] have designated channels 70-90's for high def channels-at this point anyway.

What about the people who do not have a HD box. They can not send it to 380.
