I would say that superbit DVD's are marginally better than a standard DVD. They increase the number of bits used for video and sacrifice the extra's on the normal dvd. For me that's a good trade-off. I would say that if you're going to buy a movie and you have the choice between superbit and standard, then by all means get the superbit. If you are thinking of replacing a standard dvd with a superbit, I really don't think it's worth the expense. The problem is (and this applies to special editions as well) the studios usually release a dvd, then months later will release an improved version (either superbit or special edition or directors cut). I refuse to re-buy a dvd. I usually check message boards to see if a special edition of a movie I want is upcoming. With rare exception is the improvement so great that it warrants a re-buy. The only example I can think of is the Lord of the Rings special editions.

So- if you have a choice- choose the superbit. If you already have the movie, don't worry about what you're missing. The difference is less than advertised, but it is noticeable.

YMMV.
