Those are both good units...I was in the same boat for awhile, but after doing more research and comparing, I decided on the Tosiba 57HX83 they also have the 57HX93 which has a built in terrestial HD tuner (but I already have a STB). Here is the best delivered and insured prices I've found.
I just wanted to add that on this and other sites it shows the 57 and 65HX83 as looking different in cabinet design than the 57 or 65HX93 but this is a web page screw-up...both tv's are exactly the same, one has a built in HD terrestial tuner and the other does not. I have checked the Toshiba web site. They are showing a picture of the new lcos (which will never be made) as the 57 and 65HX83. The 57HX83 looks exactly the same as the 57HX93.

Sony rated the best in the mentioned article. The Toshiba only looked good from far away....the Sony was great at all distances.....better engineering I think.

Actually, I remember that face off. The elite came in #1 but they also said that with further calibration the Toshiba (#2) would be every bit as good as the elite. For some reason the Sony didn't even make the top 5.

If all you are going to watch is HD sources then the article may be relevant. For SD sources there is no way the Toshiba could come out that strong due to the internal scaler and also being a native 1080I only.
