Zenith 520 STB QuestionJanuary 21 2004 at 1:35 PM No score for this post | Marty (Login milacqua) Magazine Subscribers |
| I've had the 520 for a little over a year now and it has performed very well. I've kept it pretty much at 1080i all the time since I watch a lot of the HD broadcasts, both D* and OTA locals (all two of them!). I have it set up with DVI to my Hitachi 57" but have not really used the DVI setting on the STB. Also, I have not fooled with any native or even the 480 settings - pretty much just 1080i for everything from hd to dvd to standard definition both local and directv. My ISF calibrator (Steve Martin from Plano, TX. - a great guy btw) set me up with both the hd mode (1080) and dvd mode (480) but using different settings on the tv ("movie" for 1080 and "news" for dvd and SD). But I just leave everything at 1080 settings. So, my question is do any of you who own the 520 (or Sony 200) switch settings or do you also leave it at 1080? What advantage would there be for me to switch to 480 for dvd playing or native or dvi for that matter? What would I hope to gain by switching to all these? Thanks in advance. |

My advice would be to sell it. Not that I had any problems with it, it's a fine machine. But it will be obsolete soon with the new combo Directv-HD-TiVo stb's due out soon. Of course if you have no interest in recording HD, never mind. I got $450 for mine which will help defray the hefty $1000 price tag on the new model. |

Marty,
You really should ask Steve Martin those questions since he did the calibration for you and knows your system.
