Hello Everybody!

First of all I’m sorry with my English I’m from Argentina and.

I have an LCD rear projector (Panasonic PT-50LCX63). I had until last week a connection through components cables (Monster THX) to my Hughes HTL-HD (DirecTV) and picture quality was beautiful in all HD channels. I got this week a cable that goes from my TV (HDMI) to my set top box (DVI) and the picture is gorgeous 1080I video signal (HBO – HDNet – Discovery HD) but when I switch to ESPN-HD (video signal 720P) the picture is displayed with unnatural colors (as if red and blue are reversed). I called Panasonic and they told me to try with an S-Video connection for that particular channel, after connecting an S-video the picture looks fine but it’s not as good as it used to be with the components.
Do you have any suggestions? I’m new to this new wonder of HD television!

Thanks & Regards
Fernando

Hi Fernando

While unfortunately I am not one of the experts, I do believe that you would be unable to get HD from ESPN-HD with S-Video cable ... you must use component video cables to get HDTV.

Beyond this, however, I don't know how to solve your problem.

You can still get the HD signal but it will be 480i, thus the poor picture quality.

Not really sure what's going on. Sounds like it's not converting the 720p to 1080i properly. Try different output resolutions using the component cables and see what happens. Still sounds like a defective receiver to me. Keep after them.

I tend to agree with Allen, sounds like you have a bad box. You might double check your component cables and ensure that you do not have the wires crossed(blue to red) or something like that. S-video will never give you a HD signal, so thats not an option. Also check your menu settings on the box and make sure its not doing some wierd 720p upconvert. Also ESPN doesnt actually show HD content 90% of the time. wait until ESPN is showing an HD Event and see if it still does it then. here is ESPN's upcoming HD Schedule. If none of this works, get a new box.
