At 6:00 a.m. CST I started receiving the CBS-HD East feed on DirecTv. I am located in east Texas. The West CBS-HD feed was not available to me. I subscribe to the local channels package out of Dallas and the HD package. The Super Bowl in HD will be sweet!

I live in Fredericksburg and get CBS HD via OTA out of DC. Most of the times I never have any problems, but if DTV is giving away Sat HD for CBS for free. I would love to sign up for it.
The problem I think I will have is that DC CBS is not O and O by CBS. Where is VA do you live that you are getting CBS HD?

I'm getting the CBS West feed in California today on channel 81. I'm lucky enough to get CBS and all other locals over the air from where I live so it will be interesting to compare the Sat. HD signal to the over the air signal. I've always thought CBS's HD picture, especially during football games, has been great.

My local CBS station in Norfolk is not network owned either. I think I'm getting it because I also have the East/West network feeds in addition to the locals. I did not cancel them when locals were offered as the wife sometimes watches the soaps on the west cost feed. Good thing I guess...

Maybe someone can help me because after calling Pegasus, I am lost.
If I understand this correctly, if I am currently not eligible to receive local channels then I cannot get the HD Cbs feeds on 80 and 81? Is this accurate?
My next question: Can I ditch dealing with the know-nothings at Pegasus and switch directly with Directv? Can I cancel my Pegasus service and give Directv a call? Any other Pegasus sufferers out there with any thoughts? Thanks.

Unless you live in one of the qualified markets. Plus I believe Pegasus is the only provider available in the area's that it serves due to market size.

Channel 82 has info on what markets get what? I saw that TX get the East Coast feed.

I started receiving both the East and West CBS HD feeds yesterday (Friday). I subscribe to both the national networks and the Salt Lake City locals (I'm 240 miles from SLC). I'm guessing that if you subscribe to both the nationals and locals, you can get both feeds. If you subscribe to the locals only, I'd bet you only get the East or West feed depending on location. Before the locals were available, I got waivers to receive the national networks. Pegasus is my DirecTV provider...and I believe they are the only provider in markets they serve. Whenever I write to DirecTV, for anything, they refer me to Pegasus.

As a footnote to my above post, it's interesting to note that Channel 80 has light gray sidebars on 4/3 material, while 81 has black bars. The sound is also much, much better on 80. My decoder says "Dolby Digital (2/0)" on 80, and "Dolby Digital (LtRt)" on channel 81.

I called direct to order the service to see if they would allow me to sign up. NO GO. I did put in for a waiver but they said that would take up to 45 days. Glad I have OTA, but they need to come up with a better way for people to get waivers.
I do understand locals need to keep their viewers but those that live 100+ miles and there is no way of getting the feeds for these stations, 45 days is a long time to wait for a special event (Superbowl).

Even though we meet ALL of the requirements to receive the CBS HD signal on DirecTV (Total Choice/HD package/Detroit O&O station), we were denied access because we technically live in the viewing area of 2 other CBS stations.
According to DTV, because of the CBS affiliates in Toledo, Ohio and Lansing, Michigan, we cannot have the CBS feed on our DirecTV in Detroit. Thank goodness that we live right near WWJ's tower and OTA is not a problem.
But, if we lived in a Detroit suburb, where OTA reception was difficult, and didn't get to see the Super Bowl in HD on DTV because of conflicts with Toledo and Lansing, we would be cancelling Direct-no-TV tomorrow.
Why not include the CBS affiliate in Cleveland in the waiver follies. We once saw a snowy version of a Lions game from a Cleveland station when their signal intermittently skipped across Lake Erie.
C'mon FCC, how using some common sense once in a while? This restriction is not only foolish, it is counter-productive to the entire HD movement.
