I bought one for the purpose of testing it. I haven’t tested it yet, but I took it apart. The un-amplified version contains a 20-inch dipole and a balun. At that length it is technically a collinear and should outperform a dipole by 2 dB or so. I am confident that its average gain is about 5 dBi. The geometry is very well done, and so it should have very wideband performance, possibly working for the upper VHF channels.
But the Silver sensor averages about 7 dBi, and thus is easily the better antenna. Furthermore I doubt the MegaWave will perform well if placed on a metal surface. Although the MegaWave will perform well close to the transmitter, I can’t think of any setting where I would recommend this antenna.
If your un-amplified silver sensor is almost good enough, getting an amplifier for it might solve your problems. Whether this will be an improvement depends on your receiver’s noise figure. But nobody publishes those, so your only approach to this is to buy one and see if reception improves. A silver sensor with a Channel Master 7775 or 7777 is about as good as it gets for indoor antennas. But if your problem channels are above 50 then an amplifier and a double-bow are the best.
