Comcast HD question - some channels appear very dark

I've noticed several channels appear extremely dark, like analog Cinemax, and digital Showtime (not the HD). Besides my own television brightness settings is there anyway for me to control/improve the brightness? Is this something I should complain to Comcast about or am I just sunk?

While on this subject, I've noticed that some channels are much louder than others. INHD2 for instance is very quiet, but then switching to Spike TV or FoodNetwork I always have to turn the volume back down. Why does this happen?

Maybe you have a receiver setup problem? How about audio choices?
