Hey Richard, I would like your opinion on this. I have a 3 year old Toshiba HDRP that fills the screen when fed a 1080i image. I understand that the early RCA Proscans did the same thing. I am thinking about anamorphic squeezeing the image to a 16X9 size to the colorstream input side to achieve a OAR picture. Do you think that this is a good idea, would I cause any harm to my set? Thank's

It is a 4:3 display and HD. Since the set automaticaly fills the frame when fed a HD image, I read where you can squeeze the image size to a 16x9 without losing any lines of resolution. Of course, this would only be corrected in the HD mode.

The 4:3 that is recommended is the kind that does a vertical compression with 480P or 1080I inputs; Difficult if not impossible to find anymore. The only way you can get around this is if there is a format that makes people in 16:9 images look tall and skinny. Then you could make a comitted choice to reduce the vertical size but then you will be stuck; your formatting is based on 4:3 not 16:9; Might need an external scaler to make it it work out right. I tried this one time and ran into a protection circuit problem and gave up. It is not as easy as you think to do but that will depend on the particular design.
For all the trouble you might be better off just replacing the display.

Do you have a link?

According to the link it is easy enough to do. It does not clearly discuss the ramifications of doing so.
At this point you need to discuss this with the Keohi website or the calibrator who will be performing this adjustment for you. There is the issue of potential burn-in. There are formatting issues that will need to be resolved to make this work. An external scaler may be suggested. I leave it to them to explain all this to you unless you are local and wanted me to do the work.
Good Luck!

Thank's for the laugh! Buying a new set is out of the question. You see, I have a wife to deal with. I had enough of a time spending over $2000 three years ago for a 55 inch tv when our 19 inch was working just
fine. Not to mention that not many people (like her) had never heard of High Def.! I just recently got her to stop buying vhs tapes because the price is so good! She says that she is not cheap, just THRIFTY. You be the judge.
