Saw where they are going to do the final four in HD but not sure about the other games. Anyone know. The other question I had was whether or not I would get a better picture using a DVI cable on a sony 57" KPWS510 HD Widescreen Monitor. Currently the Motorola STB that I am using through Insight Communications does not support the DVI yet. Any information would be appreciated.

If I am not mistaken, last year they broadcast the final four in HD as well as one of the regional semis and finals. My guess is that they will do the same this year.

General concensus is DVI will be better for digital displays like DLP, etc. but for a CRT TV it may or may not be better since the TV will have to convert the digital DVI signal to analog.

So are the rear projection Sony Widescreen TV's not digital. My understanding is that using component video takes the digital signal coming out of the STB converts it to analog and the TV converts it back to digital. I thought if you used a DVI that the signal would stay digital the entire time from STB to the television. Please tell me if I am wrong.

CRT technology is analog. Your component cables carry an analog signal converted from digital by your set top box. DLPs, LCD and LCOS technologies are digital and DVI would be the best way get the best picture. If you use a DVI cable on CRT, you bring the digital signal to the TV and it converts it to analog. It would all depend on which does the best conversion, your STB or the TV as to what really is the best way to watch a CRT Rear Projection HDTV.

Thanks. It is a RPTV. I will continue to use the monster cable component videos and take back the $100.00 DVI I bought. I think it does an excellent job. Any suggestions on an ISF calibration in the Cincinnati, OH area?

Tom, don't misunderstand what RPTV means with respect to the display technologies. RPTV does not mean just CRT. So when asked, you need to specify that it is CRT or DLP or LCD or PLASMA. Its not enough to say that its a RPTV.
DLP and CRT are both RPTV.

Cool. Thanks for the info. You are right it is a CRT RPTV. Seems that the DVI port on the Sony is sort of superflous then if you can get a better output from the component video cables. I suppose you could use a DVD player with a DVI cable. This forum is great. I am going to have to subscribe to the mag as well.

If you would like or have any additional response to the CBS NCAA question I would love to hear it. I have only been able to find that they are doing the final four in HD. I am hoping that maybe they would also do the regional finals. I am sure it would be too daunting a task for them at this time to do the entire tourney. Would require more cameras than they have. Any information would be great.

Last year they did broadcast one regional bracket (regional, not the sub-regional) in HD.....I believe it was the South (whichever one Duke was in last year). I would love to see them do it from all regions, but I doubt they would spend the money necessary to pull that off.

Just read that the final 4 (Texas) will be in HD..... and the Regional playoffs will all be SD... with the exception of the "Central Games".. (St. Louis)....
(Moving that HD truck to Texas for the finals was the most feasable possibility!!!
....HERE's to the 24-HD trucks that are currently being built!!!!.... and next years HD SPorts!!!!!!
