CBS just announced that they will broadcast 13 PGA tourneys ...over 80 hours....(WITH COMMERCIALS beginning April 17th) IN HD!!!!
(.....some SD of course for the wireless cams!!!)
The 1080i HD format.... is the ONLY way to Really see the beauty of the courses... and the sport of golf (any sport for that matter!!!!)... and CBS knows it...
THeir coverage WILL probably be similar to the Master's coverage the last two years.... (and airing this year April 8th thru the 11th!!!!)

The non golfers probably think we're crazy, but this is awesome. In the case of the Master, I believe USA broadcasts it. Do they broadcast it on a special channel!
I currently have both Direct TV and Cable.
thx

Last year the Thursday and Friday coverage was on USA, and I think it was on CBS too. Time Warner used one of the same channel that they had used for the NBA All Star coverage.....which later became one of the INHD channels.

CBS will broadcast all of its PGA Tour coverage, starting with The Masters, in high definition this year.
CBS Sports senior vice president Ken Aagaard said the additional production costs will amount to about $2 million, but that will be covered by a sponsor, California-based Argent Mortgage Co.
Core Digital, the facilities company whose broadcast truck will be used, brought Argent to the table, making the entire venture possible.
Although a leader in HD broadcasting, CBS still requires that a sponsor underwrite the additional costs of any HD production. Sony was the sponsor for the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl, including the first-ever HD broadcasts of the pre- and postgame shows.
CBS has a long history of experimenting with golf in HD, starting with the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2001, the same year it did the first HD Super Bowl. But this year will mark the first time it brings HD to golf on a week-to-week basis.

Golf in HD widescreen is awesome. Anyone watch the horse races this weekend on HDNet. They were great! Camera angles down the backstretch were one of a kind. Sound was great too. Could hear the jockey's go the the whip in the final furlong.
