Any new news on this deal? Now if we could just get Uncle Ruppert to film in true HD.

If a show is captured on film then it can be converted to true HD at a later date. However the show will look still better if it is captured on video tape using HD cameras since there will be fewer color errors and no film grain.

What was the question?

I was interested in the original question, but I think we went on a tangent. Any news regarding when DirecTV will carry FOX (HD when available)? When they announced CBS, they said Fox to come soon.

I got some info from another fourm that stated this fall. But remember nothing is in stone with DTV.

If they made movies using high def cameras instead of film I don't think they would look "cinematic"...I think they would have an unappealing "soap opera" look...[my 2 cents]

24p video is another breed of cat

The shows that are shot with a 24p HD video camera are virtually indistinguishable from shows originated on film. There are differences, but you really have to look hard to see them. And, if the DP understands how to light specifically for HD video, then you would be very hard pressed to tell one from the other.

I think the HDnet film-less stuff is the best looking programming on TV. The “cinematic” people are dinosaurs.
