Sorry for the late reply as I've been away for a while. This has been something that I've been battling with TWC for some time. When my 8000HD was first installed, I was using a 3-way splitter and was pulling in around -17db. It was good enough for little to no audio or video dropouts. Then, all of the sudden, I could no longer get HDNET or InHD while many of my other digital HD channels were coming in just fine. Turns out I was running with severely low signal strength. What happened between then and now I'd sure like to know.
I got rid of the 3-way, plugged the 8000hd directly into the wall and measured about a -13. I can now only use a two way splitter to get the acceptable levels of -16 or -17. I had TWC come out to see why my signal strength lessened. As expected, they had no clue. Told me it's best to use just a 2-way if anything at all.
I've already tried an amplifier, but that gave me too strong a signal, which gave me constant audio and video dropouts. I've given up and currently have no cable TV in my bedroom.

Was it a cheap splitter? If so try a better one. If you only have one digital cable box and the other two are analog, then use a 2-way splitter - one to the cable box and one to another 2-way splitter. The analog legs will probably be fine with the extra split. I had the same problem with Adelphia cable modem. Worked fine for months then one day the signal strength changed. Had to use a 2-way with one leg going directly to the cable modem and the other into a 8-way splitter. Works fine.
