Hi,
I use a HOLO3D PCI computer card vid scaler connected to an sdi modded Panny RP82 and scale all my dvd's to 1080i to a component input on my fully ISF'd Tosh 65H80. The picture is stunning.
Last week the ISF'r who did my set was in Toronto from Calgary for one of his twice yearly calibrating tours and purchased an LG scaling dvd player for $300cdn. Unlike some others this player scales from the component inputs, (my set doen't have DVI).
He came over and we decided to A/B my scaling setup (about $2000cdn not counting the cost of the pc with a 10bit ATI vid card) and the $300cdn LG scaling dvd player with dcdi.
We used exactly the same movies and both of my component inputs.
I have to say the results to my eyes were very close.
If you were to compare PQ vs cost there certainly wasn't a $1700cdn difference regardless which one we thought was superior.
He was just here for an hr or so and I didn't get the model # but I'm sure an LG dealer will tell you but if you do the arithmatic it should be about $200US and I think is definitely worth your investigation if your in the market for a new DVD player.
