so I got a mixed bag of news today......
so on my bill I just got it says "we have HDTV in your area now!"
so first they have lied to me before...I call and they say "nooo, not in YOUR area.....some day though"
so I honestly thought that would happen again........
but yes they actually DO offer HD in my area......
FOUR stinking channels......
4,9, Showtime and Starz.
Not interested in the movie channels for now.......
so really only 4 and 9.
No reasoning why the other majors are not offered.......
so the only good thing out of this is it does mena it's coming and more coming soon.....
On a positive note, the only extra charge is for the box.
I pay $3.50 for the one I have, and the HD on is $7.95....
so $3.45 for two major broadcasters in HD..............I guess thats not AWFUL!

You have to crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run. Patience.

Can you not receive any HD signals via an OTA -- the old school way? I currently receive all of my HD signals via a set of rabbit ears (will be upgrading to a full antenna later this week). It certainly doesn't cost anything per month outside of the antenna cost... Just my $0.02 worth..

OTA of D.C. Stations not Likely in Frederick

I am a little north of Germantown MD, which is about 24 miles northwest of the Wash D.C. transmitters and I only receive the ABC and CBS affiliates via an OTA antenna. NBC and PBS reception is intermittent to nonexistent at best. Frederick MD is approximately 20 miles north of my location. Sugarloaf "Mountain" is probably in a direct line right between the Washington transmitters and Frederick, so I would not be overly optimistic about OTA reception up there from D.C.. Picking up the Baltimore channels that are due east of Frederick might be possible, at least there would be no ridges or 1,000 foot hills in between those locations. I have the Voom folks scheduled to come out this week and move my OTA that they installed over 3 weeks ago in an attempt to improve my OTA reception. I'm confident that a roof mount installation will greatly improve my reception. I am on a hill approximately 600 feet above sea level, so I am relatively high on an elevated line of sight path to the transmitters. Some parts of the Frederick area are even higher in elevation, so one might just luck out and get a clear line of sight to D.C.
I wish all of those folks up there the best of luck with an OTA. I just gave up on cable years ago due to the high cost and prolonged (days to weeks) service interruptions.

All the majors plus PBS
and this is sort of lame.....
but, my current antenna setup is very ummm, unsightly.......
I don't want to spend the huge amount of $ it would take
to install the antenna properly (outdoor), and I am NOT
getting up on my roof. Started to try once and didn't get
very far up before I was thinking about how far I would be falling......
Our attic is filled with blown insulation.....
tried to go up THERE once and thought I was gonna die......
soooooo........
for just a few extra bucks for the box.....
I wouldn't mind getting cable HD for a while.....
and maybe get rid of my white trash setup.........
or not as I am still missing two channels minimum........
hmmmmmmmm

I live in southern york county (PA - shrewsbury) and adelphia still doesn't offer HD here. First I was told at the beginning of Jan, then the end of Jan., then the first quarter sometime, now at least they are saying they don't know when.

ehhhh....
Adelphia cable HD is not so great......
it is HD....
it does look better than regular TV (especially being widescreen)
but.....my cheezy OTA setup provides an obviously better picture.
It's hard to explain.....but there is a lot of fuzz / noise in the area's
that are out of focus in any given shot...
so you watch the cable HD and think hey thats pretty nice....
a far cry from the visual WOW I get with ota........
I guess I'll just ahve to work on my OTA.......
Oh well.......
