Hello!

Hope your spring is going well. We are having a late season here in Atlanta but the flowers have finally kicked in.

While things look good on the surface for HD video and audio it doesn’t bode well behind the scenes. Voom is gone. More than just a service VOOM represented the potential world of HDTV and the fact that it could not get the subscribers is foreboding. I continue to service HDTVs that do not have HD signals feeding them and most of these folks still don’t care. I am a supporter of Blu-ray for HD DVD, they resolved the problems accept for one biggy; the capitol expense of retooling the manufacturing plants which is where Toshiba has created a welcome audience with the bean counters of the industry. What we do know historically is we will need MORE space and therefore Blu-ray should win yet Sony is now discussing cooperation to avoid a two format war. CD sales have picked up while HD audio sales plummet and to make matters worse the record companies are now pushing the new dual disc and it appears to be a hit. Will HD audio get lost in the background if it not already? The question is can we draw any parallels between HD audio, HDTV and the upcoming HD DVD format? Will enough consumers care?
