Unfortunately we have no choice but to cancel the Wasted festival in San Bernardino next month. It has been an incredibly difficult situation and we have held out until the very last minute in the hope that it could be saved.

With just 24 days to go ticket sales were less than 1000 and while we appreciate that buyers in the US do buy tickets a lot nearer the show we could not take the risk that the show would not break even.

Added to this was the fact that the venue and other services and some bands were demanding tens of thousands of dollars in advance which we simply did not have, it was hopeless. When we do festivals in the UK/Europe, not many services or bands require up front monies and those that do tend to want them pretty close to the festival which means that because we sell lots of tickets in advance it all works out. This is not the case in the US and we are just not big corporate promoters with loads of cash in the bank. We rely on the support of the whole of the punk scene to put these gigs on and that support was not there.

We are really very sorry that some of you will have booked flights, paid for hotels and will have lost money. We have been working on this for over two years and would have done anything to see it happen.

There may be a salvage operation to put a one day festival on on the Saturday so if any bands have booked flights then please let me know and Iwill see what I can do. As soon as I have information on who is going to play this gig I will put it on the website

Once again all I can do is apologise for this awful situation and hope that we can all bounce back from this.

There will be full ticket refunds available from the point you purchased them - some of them may take up to 30 days so please be patient. If you have tickets from tickets@wastedfestivals.com then you can either get a refund or swap it for a weekend Blackpool ticket for next year.

We really appreciate the lovely emails we have had from bands and people who were going to the festival and as always huge thanks for all your support, take care

Cock Sparrer regret to announce that we have been told that the USA WASTED concert (8th / 9th October 2005) has been cancelled.

We were informed today that the festival had to be cancelled for reasons beyond our control and therefore thought it best that we let you know what's going on.

It was always our intention to play the show and have turned down other offers this year as we promised the promoters that they would have 'our only worldwide show' for 2005. We feel very badly let down but more importantly are disappointed for all the people that have bought tickets, sorted hotels and arranged vacations around this gig.

We have worked with the promoters before - playing HOLIDAYS IN THE SUN / WASTED festivals in the UK, GERMANY and SPAIN. We have always been treated well and impressed with their organisation and therefore had no way of foreseeing this course of events.

It has been suggested that part of this problem has been caused by some bands demanding their money up front. We would like to state for the record that COCK SPARRER have NEVER, and never will ask, for any advance payment for any gig we do - we know how difficult cash flow is for promoters. Anybody who knows us, or has worked with us will know this to be the case.

No doubt a lot will be said about all this, there are obviously things that should have been sorted out long before they got to this stage. We have been busy rehearsing and looking forward to the show. At no stage have we put any pressure on the promoters, financially or otherwise so we are shocked and disappointed by this sad news.

All we can tell you is that it is the decision of the promoters - not COCK SPARRER to cancel this show.

There are rumours of a rescue show but as we know 'rumours carry more weight than facts'. - At this stage we can state that no one has approached us to play.

Therefore we can confirm that COCK SPARRER will not be coming to the USA in October. Anyone saying differently will be just trying to con you into turning up. If this changes at any stage we will post an update on www.cocksparrer.co.uk

We apologise to everyone that was looking forward to seeing us. We can assure you that we are gutted. Some of our family and friends have already bought their flight tickets and booked hotels etc and they are non-refundable. So we have a lot of very upset people close to home - so we really understand how you guys feel.

We have already been talking to our friends at TKO Records as they managed to organise our only successful trip to the US in 2000. Hopefully we can reschedule something for next year. However, it's early days and the disappointment of this hasn't really sunk in yet.

We just wanted to let you know as soon as we found out for ourselves and thought we should send an e-mail out in case some of you haven't checked the new message on our web-site yet.

Ik vind het ook heel erg klote voor jullie, maar zoals Lieselot o.a. al zei is er zoveel meer te zien in Californïe. Wij zijn er vorig jaar geweest. Aan Los Angeles vond ik zelf niet zo veel aan. En Frits, vergeet die lekkere wijven op die stranden maar, die zie je enkel op TV !!! In werkelijkheid lopen er meer verloederde hippies rond dan knappe blondines. San Francisco is wel heel leuk, en als je daar dan toch in de buurt bent kan je ook naar Yosemite National Park, enz gaan. Ik geloof dat het niet heel duur is om een auto te huren in de States, dus ik zou hier toch ook eens over nadenken. Je zou er in elk geval geen spijt van krijgen!

antifest was slecht en dan heb ik het vooral op het geluid, want de bands deden hun best (vooral rat city riot en templars)...the adicts hebben veeeeel goedgemaakt in the house of blues, wat een show, wat een kostelijk bier, wat goekope whiskey!

We arriveerden zaterdagavond in LAX airport waar we onze huurauto gingen halen. Na een helse rit op de sunset boulevard (incl. een eindje spookrijden zonder we het wisten) arriveerden we in ons hotel, net te laat om the queers nog te zien spelen 2 blocks verder (wat we niet wisten dat het zo dichtbij was). Na een avondje chille, en de dag nadien naar amoeba records te gaan waar mn mastercard voor de tweede maal de piek van 400usd haalde (huurauto hé)...man man, the best was yet to come! 's avonds naar street dogs, 7 seconds en bouncing souls in the el rey theatre...met de bus vol marginalen (is transport van de allerarmsten). Wat een festijn, de belgische vlag vloog wel degelijk tijdens streetdogs en 7 seconds ("you came from belgium for the wasted festival? fuck wasted! this one's for you!" ) Nja na veel bier en whiskey hebbe de manne van streetdogs en flogging molly ons in een taxi gstoken naar de afterparty...feestje, tot ze yer humble servant noodzakelijk weer verzochten de taxi in te kruipen wegens bein' a drunken loeder hahaha! Comatueuze nacht tot gevolg...

hmm opstaan en ons eerste sessie platen en cd's naar ne maat brengen die die zal versturen met het vliegtuig, goekope zaak, ganse dag kater...'s avonds BBQ in het hotel, bier en whiskey (hmm black label).

Dinsdag zijn we gaan cruisen naar venice beach, santa monica beach en malibu beach...bleek dat het niet zo'n goed surfweer was. En ge zou denke, het is daar consant 30 graden, da water zal wel warm zen...jaja...tarara! De pier, muscle beach en die kraampjes op den dijk (ge denkt da ge in de film van the doors zit...): allemaal lekker toeristisch. 's avonds was er in the knitting factory een dubbel feesje aan de gang de punksocial party én een ska feesje in hetzelfde gebouw, dan maar over en weer lopen zeker? Bleek dat de surprise act op de punksocila toch wel weer effe streetdogs was...weer feest en gratis shirts en veel bier en whiskey...waarna ze mij naar het hotel hebbe gevoerd...lieve amerikaners.

Woensdag weer véél te laat opgestaan en naar Universal studio's geweest, viel me persoonlijk wel wa tegen, stomme attracties, mr heb wel shrek gezien ! 's avonds met de auto (en mn verantwoordelijke BOB-gevoel, mensen die me kenne weten wat dat betekend ) 3 kwartier rijden naar huntington beach waar the old scars and upstarts tourné the brigg aandeed. The brigg is een club van familie van duane peters. Bands die er waren civet (yummie yumiie www.civetgirls.com), Angel city outcasts, the black halos en die hunns...Was wel een vet feesje, die manne van angel city outcasts (ACO) zijn super (www.angelcityoutcasts.com). Op het einde van de avond bij het droeve afscheid zei duane nog: tot vrijdag hé...We waren dus meteen uitgenodigd op de trouwfeest in Vegas van duane en corry, tot zover ons gepland concert in the brigg van bonecrusher etc. Op de weg naar huis nog nen ambetante flik voor me gehad waarvan ik dacht dat die me ging opzij zetten...bleek ie enkel op een overdreven belachelijke manier te willen duidelijk makene dat er nen auto op de pechstrook stond wa verder. Zucht, die amerikaners...overdrijvers.

Donderdag met 2 noorse schonen dan maar de 300 mijl nr vegas...lange rit door de woestijn, saaie rechte baan, nix om ne kater op te hebben. Daar 's avonds nen heusen aperitief gehad en dan naar de casino's: was me dat een tegevaller zeg, booooring! Wel gratis booze. De afterparty in het hotle kon wel tellen...we're running out of whiskey!

Onze 2 noorse schonen moesten terug in LAX airport zen want die vlogen door naar de cook-eilanden. Wat deden onze zotte maar oh zo lieve belgen dan? Jawel, terug de auto in, effe over en weer naar LA: van 9.45u tot 21.30u in de auto gezeten bij redelijke abnormale temperaturen...mr kom, yer drunken loeders waren uiteindelijk dan toch in the bunkhouse geraakt, voor weer een leuk feestje met Die hunns en the ACO's. Weer darmendicht naar huis, gelukkig was het hotel 2 blocks verder, kruipafstand. Wat leuk is aan de VS: ge kunt y creditcard achter den toog afgeven en op het einde betalen...lol, da's dus just een handtekeningetje zette en dan een maand nadien achterover vallen van de rekening hahaha.

Zaterdag effe naar de betonnen constructie van hoover dam gaan zien, vrij indrukwekkend hoe ze mexico beroven van water... Dan breakfast gaan eten in boulder-city en terug naar california (ja vegas ligt in nevada) om in het stadje pomona dag 1 van het wasted anti-fest mee te maken.

Leuke line-up, slechte kwaliteit van het geluid, te moe na zo'n 2000km...Mr heb wel nog net kunne genieten van the templars, mn drunken loeder in crime was al gaan crashe in de auto. Rat city riot is ok wel best een aanrader.

Zondag: chille dag incl. shoppen bij headline records, uitgebaat door een franse punk...weer een aanslag op de creditcard, de klootzakken...en ik die dacht dat ze het enkel op gebouwen of metro's gemunt hadden! En dan het summum van onze trip: the adicts in the house of blues met saaie support acts die me gestolen konden worden door de slechte behandeling aan de deur. Metaaldetector, fouille, zakken leegmaken, fototoestel afgeven (in bewaring brengen en er dan nog es USD vr moete betalen...) Who's the real fascist now??? Achja, stella, johhny walker, the adicts en kimberly, marayah en co. hebben veel goe gemaakt. Na nog een boefkick overwonnen te hebben in denny's hebbe ze ons maar wijselijk afgezet in het hotel...waar er nog een leuk feesje aan de gang was...man man wat voelde ik me nuchter tegenover dat zootje ongeregeld...dat kon toch niet? Dus Miller's highlife (the champagne of beer, achja, zolang er maar alcool in zit) en tecquilla (tecquilla to kill ya!) brachten ons weldra op een zelfde decadente niveau...je wil gewoon die foto's nie zien.

Maandag laatste dag, iets na de middag uit coma wakker geworden, terug rancho santa margharita om de resterende platen en cd's te gaan droppen voor hun solovlucht naar het soete waesland. Lekker gegeten daar, nog wa kleren shoppen (levi's en dickies vééééél goekoper dan hier!). 's nachts tot 4u in t-shirt op terras van het hotel gezete, een uurke slapen, auto binnedoen en naar de luchthaven...weer whiskey drinken in de lucht(jes)...einde van een festijn...fuck wasted, fuck darren en jenny, lang leve California, want zoals de governator zou zegge: I'll be back!
