Evan, I am not sure Jesus needs facial hair. European paintings show Jesus with brown-blond hair and blue eyes and we all know that doesn't depict the historical Jesus. Why should facial hair be any different?

The white is important though, I think, from a symbolic viewpoint. It represents Jesus as "good", "Pure", "Lamb of God." More importantly, it defines Jesus as an archetypal figure.
