Response to NZ CAST RECORDING

Hey Naz. The NZ cast was actually a rush job. When the Farnham/Stevens tour ended in Australia, the producers embarked on a New Zealand tour with a New Zealand cast doing exactly the same show, costumes, lighting etc as the Australian Arena Spectacular tour.. Margaret Urlich, Jay La'gaia and Darryl Lovegrove were all succesful contemporary performers in NZ at the time. After the tour began and was a success, the producers quickly flew the principle cast to Australia to record the vocals to the Australian music. They just lifted off Farnham etc... and laid down Kiwi vocal tracks so the CD could be sold at the venue during the tour. I believe there was under 10,000 cds pressed. There were plans for a "live" release of a double CD of the Oz JCS that were abandoned and because the the theatrical tour cast (half of NZcast, Lovegrove as Jesus, and with Jon Stevens as Judas) that toured Australia 95/96 had announced a new full cast recording, they didn't release anymore New Zealand "Tour Edition" CDs. Unfortunately the new full cast recording was also abandoned. I rate the NZ very highly myself. The last live JCS I saw in Oz was Lovegrove as Jesus on that tour. It is just about impossible to buy a genuine article copy, but it is readily available for trading for anyone interested in getting hold of it. NZ trivia: Jay La'Gaia who plays Judas, played Captain Typho in Star Wars Episode 2 Attack of the Clones.
Cheers,
Mark (Carcuss)
