Officer, a head case?

by the retiree

Officer's last two performances reminded me a little of the Sanford, 1919. A while back in one of my comments (p. 4) I wrote in part: "No one messes with good horses, whether two or three years old. To think that a horse is being intentionally slowed in the stretch at a point that he is taught to give his best effort is against all common sense. It would confuse the horse and though it may win the race, the next time it may need to give that supreme effort and not give it."

I haven't heard whether Baffert has commented but he stated on many occasions that his instructions to Espinoza? were not to let the horse win by too much.
I taped Officer's two losses and he looked like he quit running at the point he took the lead in his first five races as if his job were done. I had hopes, like a lot of others, that we were looking at MOW reborn but thats not to be.

What do you all think? Do they have horse shrinks? I'm just looking for answers and hoping they can get him back on the right track.
