I don't know any stats off-hand about that period, either, except to note that by then, the "$5 day" from Ford could well have trickled down to most jobs, and that you might multiply by 8 (maybe more) to get the likely cost today. Which isn't that much. But then I'd note, that around here we pay avg $5 for "clubhouse" entry, and $3 for grandstand for a day.
I happened to see that ticket, too, the other day. Was looking for Man O'War sites in general (that's where the painting comes from), and 1 I liked in particular. Hope I can find it since it looked good and I was going to ask Beth if she might want to ask the owner to include here.
