the fact there was neither bridge nor tunnel from Detroit to Windsor as there is today. Folks had to take a ferry or hitch a boat ride from a friend. Those 30,000 fans, I think, were not all Canadiens. Once across they probably had to find a cab or walk because there was no mass transportation from the river to the track. I don't know where I saw it but I recall reading that there were thousands more who never made it across. I can't think of any other horse that could have aroused that much interest.
