Man o' War sure did bounce along. You could be right, Yo, that his highly "collected" stride sent him flying a longer-than-usual distance through the air.

I thought of MoW (and Native Dancer) when reading Dr. Gilman's "two strides" description because of his unusual balance of sprinter and stayer features. Overall, Man o' War looked more like a classic, lean stayer than did the Dancer or Secretariat, but turf writers commented on his mix of speed and stamina conformation traits. You're quite right about his distinctively different knee action, though.
