the dancer's greatness

by the retiree

Of course the only loss was the Derby when he lost the triple crown by about 12 inches. And though you expect that a great horse would set a record of some kind, it is possible that a race just never set up for him. Although if you ever saw his closing charge in the derby and the way he flattened out you could see that nearly 30 foot stride eating up the ground. And if you doubt he had speed check his off-spring. Raise a Native never ran as a three year old but earned two year old honors and his sons (grandsons of The Dancer) were all speed, Mr. Prospector, Alydar, to name two. and then there's another grandson, Northern Dancer, the only modern horse I know that can boast a higher stakes winning percentage(24%)among off-spring than MOW (16%). That's the mark of a truly great horse, the improvement of the breed and I attribute all that to Native Dancer.
