I often wonder just how much film from the early days of movie making has been lost due to age and neglect. Man O'War being the "Drawcard" that he was back in those days must have been filmed on numerous occasions by amateur and professional cameramen alike, but the film used in those days was all nitrate and after a few decades it deteriorates into a sticky brown mess. Only film that has been saved to videotape survives. I wonder how many people find little round tins covered in cobwebs when cleaning out grandads home and open it to find old useless film that may have been worth a fortune had it been viewable.
