Hi,I recently found a Man-O-War collectable. I have never seen anything like it before.
What it is ,is a gambling spinning top.It is small,silver,about the size of a large thimble.It has (it is 8 sided) Man-O-wars name engraved on one of the sides and the other 7 horses in that race on each of the other sides.One horse in the race was "Sparkplug".I can't find Man-O-Wars starting lineups of his races or the date of the race this top was made for could be identified.On the top of the "top" is a odds wheel,ivory,which spins independently of the top body.The odds go from Disq(disqualified),2/1,4/1,8/1,etc.The top has a knurled pin at the top which you spin with your thumb and finger.The top spins for quite a while and finally falls on to one of the 8 sides containing a horses name and one of the odds on the odds wheel.
Has anyone out there ever seen or heard of this before.I have scanned the internet and can't find anything like it out there.Please help,Thanks,Greg.
