I don't keep up to date with racing now a days not many super horses around today and even if a horse looks like it could be a superhorse he gets injured and then if he's a colt then he's retired to stud. This is a little observation of mine I think Mr. Prospector is the reason why thoroughbreds are so frail. for a horse that didn't really win a major race he sure has had quite an impact on the breed. there hasn't been a triple crown winner since Affrmed because of Mr. Prospector think about all the horses that fell short of the triple crown all desend from Mr. Prospector. Don't get me wrong I'm not blaming Mr. Prospector totaly. Mostly I blame it on Breeding experts for not knowing about Mr. Prospectors unsoundness and being prone to injury all they concentrated on was his speed and know we suffer with the results as we see horses that are fast lack stamina and for the most part are unsound and prone to injury often and take along time to recover from a race. example would be afleet alex just this past won the preakness and the belmont and that was the end of his career where as in the past Omaha raced in a race I beleive it was the wither stakes a week after he won the preakness and a week before the belmont and went on to race in his for year old season in Great Britain. In the past winning the triple crown great but, didn't mean the end of a horses racing career. Now the horse that wins two jewels of the triple crown you can basicly count them out of any races after that like the Travers and the Breeders cup and forget about 4 year old season. One exception is Sunday Silence I'm a huge fan of his also of his rival Easy Goer. Sunday Silence who does not have Mr. Prospector in his pedigree won the Kentucky derby and the Preakness stakes continued to race after the triple crown series and won the Breeders Cup Classic over his rival Easy Goer and was retired and sent to Japan and became an incredible succes at stud he sired Deep Impact Japanese triple crown winner last year and who is slated to run in the Dubai World Cup in March the last Japanese triple crown winner was Narita Brian who won it in 1994 thats a long time but not compared to the United States drought. It's because the thoroughbred pedigree in the United States is saturated with Mr. Prospector. Sure in japan there are some champion horses that desended from Mr. Prospector but, the japanese didn't get crazy and breed every single mare in Japan to him and then inbreed him to another desendent of Mr. Prospector they understand diversty is a good thing. America needs to go back to the breeding program they had that led to the birth of Man o' war who was in my humble opinion the definiton of the thoroughbred breed.
