Who cares who was callign her name!? Like you said, it dosn't matter if a horse has 100,000,000,000 supporters. Seabiscuit had like none, then went on to be one of the greatest of all time.
Also, it dosn't matter if Secre's trainer said Ruffian was better. He an't tell 100%. People, even experts said Smarty, War Emblem, Funny Cide, SUnday Silence ect. would win the TC....look what happened! No TC.
Either way, I think the Do would win, but, I cannot know for sure, he was a turf horse, ruffian dirt. He was a trained sprinter. Ruffian was not. I think you are saying Ruffian is better for one bloody race... Ok... Upset is WAY better than MOW beause he beat him, same goes for Onion and Secre. Oh, and Birdstone is better than Smarty. Same goes for Seabisuit and War Admiral. You an't judge a hroses's skill by one performance. Same goes w/ anything!
Laurin lost sleep when Secretariat lost races. Was his bread and butter.
It is the courage of his convictions to say in public that Ruffian may well be better. It took courage to say that.
