Achilles of Troy, whose dominant wins in the Count Fleet and Whirlaway Stakes over Aqueduct's inner track, vaulted him to prominence in the 3-year-old division, has been taken off the Triple Crown trail because of an injury, his connections said Wednesday.

Ernie Paragallo, the authorized agent for his family-owned Paraneck Stable, said that Achilles of Troy has "heat in his left front suspensory, and his ass-end is a little sore."

Paragallo said Achilles of Troy would leave the barn at the end of the week for a facility where he would be able to swim for 30 days. He wouldn't resume training until summer.

"He's sound. You couldn't tell anything was wrong with him, he was just a little ouchy in behind and had a little heat," Paragallo said. "The vet said we could inject him and go on, but I'd rather run the horse in Saratoga."

Achilles of Troy finished fifth as the favorite in the Gotham and was vanned off following the race. A problem in his right foreleg was diagnosed, but the final evaluation was that Achilles of Troy was suffering from muscle spasms in his back.

Achilles of Troy had been pointing to the Arkansas Derby next week at Oaklawn Park.
