Barbaro is well rested by having a five week layoff to the Derby.
More than likley he will have enough energy left to win the Preakness and come into the Belmont Stakes fresh and fit.
Barbaro winning the Preakness and Belmont remains to be seen. That is in the lap of the "Gods"
Barbaro is running against very good horses in the TC.
My favorite Preakness Stakes races were:
1973 Secretariat set the track mark that day.
1977 Seattle Slew who faced top speed and closers.
Cormorant who equalled Dr Fager`s Gotham Stakes and Track Record
2 weeks earlier. Cormorant was a front runner delux!
J O Tobin great closer who just missed Track record at Santa Anita.
Jimmy Jones the Calumet trainer was there and said Wow SS is all 1`s. He is as good as any horse I had at Calumet in the 1940s.
1978 Affirmed and Alydar. Great horses who went eye to eye the final quarter for the fastest last quarter in Preakness History.
Still stands as fastest closing quarter in Preakness history.
This years group is PALE competition in comparison to those three in the 1970`s
